Join HRC, Team DC, Capital Pride, Gays & Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies (GLIFAA) and Pride House International for a special viewing of the 2014 Sochi Olympics Opening Ceremonies to benefit the Russia LGBT Sport Federation. Pride House International is the organization responsible for hosting safe spaces for LGBT athletes and their allies in the past Olympic games, but this year the Russian government has outlawed such a space in Sochi, deeming it “extreme.” As a result, virtual pride houses will be held all round the world to show solidarity with allies of equality around the world. Events being hosted include North American locations in Vancouver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, Chicago, Cleveland, Toronto, Montreal and Philadelphia, and the European cities of Glasgow, Manchester, London, Copenhagen, Paris, Brussels, Utrecht, Amsterdam, as well as Wellington in New Zealand and the Brazilian cities of São Paulo and Brasília.
The $10 suggested donation will provide scholarships to Russian athletes striving to attend the Gay Games 9 in Cleveland/Akron this coming August.
Got any loose foreign currency from a prior trip? Bring it along and donate to this wonderful cause. Also for all the athletes, we encourage you to wear your team jersey!
Beverages and light hors doeuvres will be available. Special emcee/host to be announced.
Event Beneficiary: Russian LGBT Sports Federation
